Classical Buns | French Roll

photos by - Keith Iwaniuk

These pages include step by step instructions along with photos on how to do create classical buns and French rolls.  The classical bun is the standard hair for ballet dancers in training, rehearsal and on stage (in classical works).  Although performances might require a multitude of hair designs, the following pages should offer some insight and help into how dancers should do their hair.

Some tips for successful hair include:

- for curly or frizzy hair, wet hair before starting
- add gel to wet hair before pulling hair up or back to avoid 'bumps' created when adding gel afterwards
- don't be afraid of pins; use lots!
- use hairspray throughout the process and at the end to secure the final product
